Position Title: Bookkeeper

Classification: Part time non-Exempt (20 hours/week), flexible hours

Reports to: Library Director

The Southern Lehigh Public Library (SLPL) Library Director is seeking a friendly, experienced, and knowledgeable professional to serve as Bookkeeper for Southern Lehigh Public Library. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, sales tax, monthly close-out, and assist with preparation of annual budget and audit. They will prepare a monthly report for the Board of Directors and the Friends of the SLPL.

The SLPL operates independently as a member of the Lehigh Carbon Library Cooperative – a cooperative of eleven libraries within Lehigh and Carbon Counties. Funding for the library comes from the three municipalities of Coopersburg Borough, Upper Saucon and Lower Milford Townships, and the Southern Lehigh School District. There are approximately 23,184 residents. The Bookkeeper will report to the Director and work with the Library Board of Directors Treasurer as needed.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in bookkeeping/accounting in an employment setting required, experience in a nonprofit setting preferred.
  • Experience with budget development and management.
  • Must be proficient in QuickBooks, Non-profit QuickBooks, preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software, ability to use the library’s ILS to extract monetary transactions helpful.
  • Requires proficiency in payroll administration and experience with online banking and cash management, and online tax reporting.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling work hours to accommodate all paydays and deadlines in the event of unexpected closures, such as inclement weather.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Record and maintain appropriate records for salaries and wages, tax withholding (W-4) applicable taxing authorities and benefits.
  • Transfer funds between accounts as appropriate and maintain appropriate cash records and controls.
  • Commit to ethical behavior and have the core values of the library profession.
  • Commit to professional development to stay current with library programming and best practices.
  • Adhere to all regulations, guidelines, and requirements of the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
  • Create a Report monthly for the Board of Directors and Friends of the Library.
  • Complete state reports and other various reports that may be required, including annual audit.

Compensation and Clearances

This is a part-time position non-exempt status (20 hours per week). The hourly wage is $15-$18/hour (commensurate with experience) plus generous paid leave policies, including holiday, vacation, personal, sick/surgical, and bereavement leave). Flexible work scheduling. The position also qualifies for access to a 403(b) plan.
