Position: Marketing & Communications Coordinator/Circulation Desk Clerk

Position Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Library Director

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, creating, and distributing marketing materials for all FSLPL and SLPL events and services, as well as providing a broad range of services to patrons at the Circulation Desk.

General Responsibilities:

Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with library staff, FSLPL event leaders, Board members, Crossroad IT tech consultant, Allentown District personnel, and community organizations to coordinate/create/distribute print and online marketing materials for the following:
    • Regularly scheduled library events, services, and programs, as well as special programs and fundraising events including but not limited to:
      • Helping Hands Campaign
      • Summer Fun Club and other summer programming for all ages
      • Library fundraisers
      • Holiday Giving Project
      • National Library Week activities
      • National Volunteer Appreciation Week
      • Recognition of volunteers at the holidays
      • Art Shows
      • Displays for Lobby Display Case
      • New patron packets
      • District services and collections
    • Regularly scheduled FSLPL fundraising events and programs, including but not limited to:
      • Holiday Cookie Sale
      • Evenings with Friends speaker series
      • FSLPL Membership Drive
      • Dine-to-donate and similar fundraisers
    • Responsible for managing online social media, posting events and services, responding to messages, and alerting Director to social media concerns while maintaining compliance with the library’s Email & Social Media Policy. Currently used social media apps include but are not limited to Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
    • Responsible for posting events and services on the library’s online calendar (Local Hop), preparing the online newsletter, and working with Crossroad IT to post on library website. 

Public Services – Responsible for working assigned hours at the Circulation Desk and following established policies and procedures associated with meeting the library service needs of the public including checking in/checking out items, registering new patrons, renewing and/or updating library cards, calculating and accepting overdue fines, lost/damaged item payments and fundraising transactions, assisting with hold requests, assisting with interlibrary loan requests, providing reference services using the full range of available resources, providing assistance at the public computer terminals.  Employees are expected to maintain an excellent level of customer service at all times, uphold the mission of the library, support and promote library programs, and follow procedures and policies as set forth by the Library Director and/or Board of Directors.

Clerical Services/Meeting Attendance – The following is required:

  • Attendance at monthly staff meetings via Zoom usually held on the first Wednesday of each month, 8:30-9:30AM.
  • Participation in continuing education opportunities, such as in-person or online workshops, seminars, and conferences at the request of the Director. Employees may also request the Director’s permission to attend educational opportunities.
  • Opening/closing of the library, answering telephone calls, other clerical duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma minimum; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year’s experience working in a library setting preferred.
  • Experience with marketing and graphic design preferred.
  • Requires excellent computer skills, proficiency with Windows 10, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, experience using the Internet, Google Suite, social media applications including Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, use of various electronic devices, and experience using a multi-function printer/copier.
  • Experience using a library automation system is preferred.
  • Requires excellent communication/interpersonal skills (listening, speaking, and writing) to a diverse population with varying skill sets.
  • Requires excellent fine motor coordination, good visual skills, and ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, walk, lift up to 30lbs.
  • Requires good organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Criminal history and sexual offenders’ history clearances required.

Schedule & Benefits:

  • 30-35 hrs/wk; including weekdays, one evening per week, approx. eleven Saturdays per year.
